In a recent interview with GQ, SZA addressed the online back-and-forth she had with Nicki Minaj earlier this year and called the whole situation “strange,” emphasising that she and Minaj have “no connection to each other.”

The story began this past July when Minaj publicly took aim at SZA, calling her one of the industry’s supposed “fake girl’s girls who talk s— but will run you down for a photo” and accusing her of being a “hater.” In response, SZA posted a screenshot of a past message she says showed Minaj reaching out to her about a collaboration, writing in part: “You absolutely know my music and what I contribute cause you’ve asked for features twice to no response … in addition to rapping my lyrics on Feeling Myself ‘cooking up the bass looking like a kilo’ lol ur having a moment.”

Speaking to the magazine, SZA said: “I don’t know her. We have no connection to each other. Like there was no through-line narrative. It was just like, ‘Roc Nation’ … I don’t know where it came from.” She described the feud as having no clear origin or meaning and said she felt uneasy about being pulled into it.

While Minaj’s posts included jabs at SZA’s career and even her appearance “Wait. Does Sza think she’s more successful than me? Lol yall catch me up pls” she wrote SZA’s stance was that she didn’t want to engage in the drama.

The conversation around the feud widened when fellow rapper Cardi B weighed in, accusing Minaj of clashing with “every Black woman in the industry” and pointing to her escalating pattern of conflicts.

At this moment in her career, SZA is gearing up for a new chapter after her major successes and chart-toppers, she told GQ she wants to focus on “real artistry” and said she doesn’t want to be distracted by industry feuds or hype.

Despite the noise and social-media buzz around the incident, it appears both artists are moving in their own directions: Minaj continues to influence the rap charts and culture, while SZA appears determined to let the music speak for her. The feud may not have caused a full-blown confrontation, but it given fans a glimpse into how powerful actresses and artists navigate conflict, identity and public perception in the digital age.
