LeAnn Rimes had planned to continue celebrating a major milestone year with her “30 Years of Blue” tour, but instead, the Grammy winning singer found herself stepping away from the stage to focus on her health. The 43 year old artist recently announced that she was forced to cancel and reschedule multiple concerts after being struck by what she described as a “severe illness” shortly after returning from an anniversary trip to Mexico with her husband, actor Eddie Cibrian.
The singer first shared the news through Instagram Stories, telling fans she was unable to travel or perform because of her condition. Two scheduled performances in Spokane, Washington, and Seattle were postponed, with Rimes expressing heartbreak over disappointing ticket holders. She thanked fans for their support and promised that the concerts would be rescheduled once her health improved. At the time, she did not reveal the exact nature of the illness, which immediately sparked concern among fans online.
Days later, Rimes provided more details about what she had been battling. According to the singer, she had been diagnosed with COVID 19, which eventually developed into severe laryngitis that significantly affected her vocal cords. After visiting doctors and undergoing examinations, she learned she would need extended vocal rest and additional recovery time before returning to live performances. More tour dates in Illinois and Ohio were eventually postponed as her condition continued affecting her ability to sing.
The health setback came shortly after Rimes and Cibrian celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary during a getaway in Cabo, Mexico. While photos from the trip appeared romantic and relaxed, the singer hinted that things behind the scenes were far more emotionally difficult than they seemed publicly. In an emotional social media post, Rimes described dealing with “tense” and “heart wrenching” situations involving family matters while trying to celebrate their relationship. She said the anniversary was filled with tears, worry, gratitude, and reflection on how much the couple had survived together over the years.
Rimes later revealed that her family had been going through additional personal struggles beyond her illness. In a candid Substack post, she explained that one of their parents had recently suffered a stroke and was now recovering in rehabilitation. As both she and Cibrian are only children, the emotional pressure of handling family responsibilities while managing her own health issues became overwhelming. The singer admitted she felt emotionally stripped down and physically exhausted after years of constantly pushing herself to perform despite illness and stress.
Fans have responded with overwhelming support for the country star, many praising her honesty and vulnerability during a difficult period. Throughout her career, Rimes has openly discussed various health struggles, including psoriasis, anxiety, stress, jaw issues, and the emotional impact of fame. In recent months, she also drew attention online after participating in a viral wellness therapy session that showed her crying intensely during a deep jaw release treatment. While some criticized the public nature of the video, others viewed it as another example of the singer trying to heal both physically and emotionally.
Despite the setbacks, Rimes appears determined to recover fully before returning to the spotlight. Her decision to pause performances reflects a growing shift among artists who are increasingly prioritizing long term health over pushing through exhaustion for the sake of touring schedules. For fans who have followed her journey since the late 1990s, the moment feels less like a career interruption and more like a reminder that even seasoned performers eventually reach a point where rest becomes unavoidable.
